When doing a cash flow analysis according to the Profit First method, you will want to look for the following information on your profit and loss reports and balance sheets:

  • Revenue: This will give you an idea of how much money is coming into the business.
  • Expenses: This will show you how much money is being spent on the business, including fixed costs (e.g. rent, salaries) and variable costs (e.g. materials, shipping).
  • Gross profit: This is the difference between revenue and expenses. It will give you an idea of the profit margin for the business.
  • Net profit: This is the final profit after all taxes and other deductions are taken into account.
  • Accounts receivable: This is money that the business is owed by customers but has not yet been received.
  • Accounts payable: This is money that the business owes to suppliers or other creditors.
  • Cash balance: This will show the amount of cash available in the business.
  • Profit distributions: This is the money that is being set aside for profit distributions, which is one of the key principles of the Profit First method.

By analysing this information, you will be able to identify areas where the business is generating cash flow, as well as areas where cash flow may be tight. This will allow you to make informed decisions about how to manage your business's finances going forward.
